The New PVC-8
The Tech Electronics PVC was the first video playback controller on the market in 1980.

The Creative Controls PVC-8 represents the culmination of over 25 years of experience in automated video playback controllers.

"The Old Reliable"

The PVC-8 is essentially a 8 x 3 video / stereo audio routing switcher that can be programmed on a time basis. In addition it provides function
control for DVD players (play and stop) and VCR's (play, stop and rewind) on a time basis. This combination provides for an unattended playback
system consisting of up to 8 DVD players or VCR's and up to 3 channels. As many as 1000 events can be programmed on a 7 day basis and
retained in non-volatile memory.

In addition to the automatic operation the PVC-8 provides full manual operation on the front panel GUI or by computer control via RS-232 link.

Any input source (inputs 1 - 8) can be switched independently to an output (A, B or C) in any combination on a time basis.

A special feature of the PVC-8 is video / audio default inputs which are typically computer generated graphics or character generators. The default
inputs are designed to automatically switch to output upon loss of video sync from the programmed input source. This default feature uses video
detection circuits which can be programmed to turn on / off on an time basis.

Outputs A and B are tied to default inputs A and B through the video detection circuitry. The third output C, which has no video detection circuitry,
can be used as a third programmable output or a preview output.
Each video input has an individually set pre-roll time. Pre-roll is defined as the time delay after a DVD player or VCR has be placed into play and
the time that the video and audio is switched to output. This is useful in allowing a VCR to get up to speed before switching and it can also be
used to "cue" a video segment. Pre-roll can be set for up to 99 minutes (seconds accurate).

DVD and tape cueing can also be programmed by using the "play-no switch" command. This command will roll the DVD or VCR for a programmed time (seconds accurate) and then a "play" command will switch the cued video segment to output.

Another special feature of the PVC-8 provides for controlling combo decks to play either the DVD or the VCR portion. This provides double capacity on a single input. There is a special function called "Tape" which works with Sony and Panasonic Combo decks. Normally a "play" command will activate the DVD portion of the combo. But, when a "tape" command is programmed for at least 1 minute before the "play" command, the combo will play the VCR instead.

One of the more unique features of the PVC-8 is the security feature. When the security is activated a 4 digit code must be entered to access the Manual, Aux and Program modes. This is prevent unauthorized use of the system by persons who do not know the code.

If it is necessary to control ancillary devices which require contact closures (momentary or maintained) the PVC-8 can be up fitted for a GPI (general purpose interface) output consisting of 3 relay contact closures. These can be programmed on an time basis for latch on, latch off or one second pulse.

The PVC-8, like the name implies, has a maximum of 8 inputs. If a system needs more inputs another PVC-8 can be added as an "Expander" unit to double the number of inputs. In effect the two units are "cascaded" to provide 16 inputs into 3 outputs with common programming.

A software package, WinPVC 99, is included with each PVC-8 to provide programming capability and program management via RS-232 for a PC with Windows. WinPVC 99 is used for program composition and editing and the completed program is downloaded to the PVC-8.
